SigXor ships as a portable ZIP with a built-in updater. It runs in the system tray without opening a main window. Once it is installed, select a file in File Explorer and press Space to preview it.
Download and install#
- Open GitHub Releases and download the latest
SigXor-{version}-win-x64.zip. - Unzip it into a writable folder, such as
D:\Apps\SigXor. Do not useProgram Filesor another read-only location: automatic updates need to write into the app folder. - Install the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime and the WebView2 runtime if they are missing. WebView2 is usually preinstalled on Windows 10 and 11.
- Run
SigXor.exe. If SmartScreen appears, choose More info → Run anyway (the release is not code-signed). - SigXor starts in the system tray. Select a file in File Explorer and press Space to preview it.
Portability: copy the whole unzipped folder to move SigXor to another PC. The target machine still needs the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime and WebView2.
System requirements#
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 or later (64-bit) |
| Runtime | .NET 10 Desktop Runtime (install separately) |
| WebView2 | Usually preinstalled; needed for the Office web view, Markdown, web, audio and PDF preview |
| Memory | 4 GB or more; 8 GB recommended once voice models are loaded |
| Disk | About 1 GB; voice and OCR models add about 260 MB and download on demand |
| Microphone | Needed for voice input (optional) |
| App folder | Must be writable; automatic updates depend on it |
First run#
- Tray menu: open a file preview, region screenshot, voice and screenshot, start or stop the voice service, settings, check for updates, about and quit.
- Voice and OCR models: not bundled. They download on first use (SenseVoice about 230 MB, PP-OCR about 30 MB with a 16 MB fallback) and then run fully offline.
- Settings: three pages — General, Voice & screenshot, Services & models — covering auto-start, silent start, close to tray, notifications and hotkeys.
- Command line:
SigXor.exe <file>previews a file directly;SigXor.exe --silentstarts in the tray only.
Automatic updates#
SigXor uses its own updater, which reads latest.json from GitHub Releases:
- Check for updates and compare versions.
- Download the full application ZIP and verify its SHA256.
- When the app exits, the embedded updater replaces the program files.
- If the new version is not ready within 30 seconds, it rolls back automatically.
The app folder must be writable. If the updater process is killed, rename SigXor.exe.bak back to SigXor.exe to recover manually. See updater.log in the app folder for details.
When upgrading from the old Velopack installer, quit and uninstall the old version first, then unzip the new portable build into a fresh writable folder. Do not overwrite the old installation in place.
Data folder#
All user data lives in your Documents folder:
Documents/FNSoftware/SigXor/
├─ settings.json # general / voice / screenshot settings
├─ pinned-apps.json # launcher pinned apps
├─ Backups/ # automatic backups before saving
├─ Logs/ # unhandled exception logs
├─ Models/
│ ├─ Speech/ # SenseVoice model
│ └─ Ocr/ # PP-OCRv6 / v5 models
├─ Screenshots/ # default screenshot output
└─ Audio/ # debug recordings (WAV)
On first launch after upgrading, SigXor migrates older data folders and can reuse or move old models.
Uninstall#
- Choose Quit from the tray menu.
- Delete the program folder.
- To remove user data as well, delete
Documents/FNSoftware/SigXor.
