The questions below are ordered by frequency. See the dedicated documentation pages for details, and open a GitHub issue if you are still stuck.

Is SigXor free?#

Yes. SigXor is completely free and released under the MIT license. The source code is on GitHub, and there is no paid tier or subscription.

What is SigXor?#

SigXor is a Windows 10 / 11 desktop productivity tool: press Space in File Explorer to preview files quickly, with built-in offline voice input, region screenshots, local OCR, a color picker and a hex editor.

Do I need to install a .NET runtime?#

Yes. The release is a framework-dependent single file, so the target machine needs the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime and the WebView2 runtime. The ZIP already contains the webassets and other runtime resources, so it runs as soon as it is unzipped. Voice and OCR models download on first use.

Does voice recognition or OCR upload my data?#

No. SenseVoice speech recognition and PaddleOCR text recognition both run locally. Audio, screenshots and recognized text are never uploaded. Models download only on first use and then work fully offline.

How do automatic updates work?#

The client reads latest.json from GitHub Releases, downloads the full ZIP and verifies its SHA256. After exit, the embedded updater replaces the app. If the new version is not ready within 30 seconds it rolls back automatically, so the app folder must be writable.

Which file formats are supported?#

More than 30 formats, including text and code, images, Word / Excel / PowerPoint, RTF, ODF, Markdown, HTML, common audio formats and PDF. Any binary file can be opened in the hex view.

Can I use it on multiple computers?#

Yes. SigXor is portable: copy the whole unzipped folder. Each computer needs Windows 10/11 64-bit, the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime and WebView2. User data is not synced automatically.

How do I uninstall it?#

Choose Quit from the tray menu and delete the program folder. User data remains in Documents/FNSoftware/SigXor; delete that folder too for a complete cleanup.

Why is there no code signing?#

The release does not use a code-signing certificate yet, so SmartScreen may warn on first launch. Choose More info → Run anyway, or verify the SHA256 checksum published with the GitHub release.

How do I report a problem?#

Open a GitHub issue and include the SigXor version, Windows version, reproduction steps and logs from the Logs folder. See Troubleshooting for more diagnostic steps.
